A MEDICAL REFERRAL IS NOT REQUIRED TO VISIT A PODIATRIST
Podiatry fees are covered under most Private Health Insurance “Extras” funds. Please check with your health fund to determine your level of cover for podiatry services as there is wide variability.
No out of pocket fees if you are eligible for Bulk Billing & Medicare Rebates
If you are seeking to have your care covered under DVA, Medicare or WorkCover, a Doctor's referral will then be necessary.
Medicare Rebates and Bulk-Billing
Medicare rebates are available for a maximum of 5 podiatry services per patient in a calendar year. These rebates are available to patients that have a chronic condition and complex care needs being managed by their GP under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan. If you have diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis or other chronic foot conditions please discuss your eligibility to access this program with your podiatrist and your GP. We are NOT PERMITTED by law to ask a GP to issue a referral on your behalf and we are not permitted to treat you first and then obtain a referral. Under the current laws in place, Allied Health does not come under the Medicare normal bulk billing scheme.
Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA)
Clients of the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (DVA) with a Gold Card or podiatry-related White Card are fully covered with no out-of-pocket expenses when referred by their GP.
Workers Compensation (WorkCover)
Workers Compensation (WorkCover) cases are also fully covered with a medical referral and approval of your case by WorkCover.
